As the Thanksgiving travel period approaches, officials at Mississippi’s largest airport are anticipating what could be the busiest holiday in years.
Peak travel at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International (JAN) is set to begin Tuesday, Nov. 26, and last through Monday, Dec. 2. Per a press release, thousands are expected to take the airways to and from Jackson during that period. During Thanksgiving 2023, the airport saw a record of nearly 27,000 passengers.
Officials with the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) encourage passengers to arrive at least two hours before their flight departures, ensuring ample time for parking, security procedures, and picking up a pre-flight bite to eat. The newest dining option at JAN is a Dunkin’ Donuts in the east concourse, joining a list of four other food and drink experiences.
“At JMAA, we remain dedicated to delivering an exceptional travel experience for all passengers and visitors and will continue working to ensure your journey through JAN is as seamless as possible,” JMAA CEO Rosa Beckett said. “With our TSA partners’ newly installed checkpoint security technology, travelers should be comfortable knowing that their safe travel is paramount at JAN.”
Nationwide, the Thanksgiving travel period is projected to see 5.84 million travelers take to the skies.
