Multiple players from Mississippi College and Delta State earned postseason honors from the Gulf Coast Conference.

Here’s where standouts from the Division II programs landed in the conference’s yearly awards:

Mississippi College

Coming in as co-offensive freshman of the year is Choctaw running back Preston Godfrey who amassed 834 all-purpose yards in his program’s final campaign. He finished No. 6 in the conference with 526 rushing yards and two scores. He also logged 123 yards in the air and 185 yards on special teams.

Mississippi College linebacker Brady Weatherly earned the GSC’s defensive freshman of the year title. Weatherly was third among team leaders in total tackles (41) and tackles for loss (4.5) in his debut season. He appeared in 10 games for Choctaws averaging 2.7 solo tackles per game with two pass break-ups.

The Choctaws had one first-team selection — defensive back David Brown IV who recorded 46 tackles, 7.5 of which were for a loss, two interceptions, and a pair of pass breakups. Earning second-team honors for Mississippi College were running back Marcus Williams, defensive lineman Brennan Blake, and linebacker Jasen Betz

Delta State

The Statesmen had eight total players listed as standouts in the GSC this season in its first year following the Patrick Shegog era.

Conerly Trophy hopeful running back Kelvin Smith was a first-team and second-team selection after logging 736 yards and six touchdowns this season. Offensive guard Jaelon Brown made a first-team appearance after using his massive frame to help open things for Todd Cooley’s offense.

Another addition to the GSC’s postseason first team was punter Parker Burleson. The Mathiston native booted the ball 48 times for 1,827 total yards. Second-team honorees from Delta State were wide receiver Jaylen Green, defensive lineman Mario Martin, linebacker William Carter, and kicker Nick Herber.
