McComb’s police chief has been placed on administrative leave as the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation continues to assess an officer-involved shooting that claimed the life of a teenager.

Chief Juan Cloy is not currently operating in his role following a November 14 shooting in which Jamarion Seiber, 16, was shot and killed by law enforcement. According to authorities, McComb police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that night.

Mayor Quordiniah Lockley told WJTV that a group of young men wearing hoodies had been flashing firearms out of the vehicle, startling community members. When officers arrived at a location on 25th Street, two people were said to have gotten out of the reported vehicle. One brandished a weapon, prompting officers to discharge their firearms, killing Seiber. An unidentified individual was arrested at the scene.

At the time, the vehicle in question fled the scene as authorities believe three to four additional suspects were inside at the time of the incident. Later that night, law enforcement confirmed the 2016 Dodger Charger had been found but not the other suspects.

At this time, the suspects who fled remain at large. Cloy will remain on leave until the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation wraps up its assessment of the fatal shooting. According to authorities, Being placed on leave does not indicate that the chief did anything wrong.
