One person died and four others were injured during a shooting in Walthall County early Sunday morning.
A social gathering in Sandy Hook, an unincorporated community with a population of just over 2,400, turned violent when shots rang out just after midnight. Walthall County Sheriff Kyle Breland told WDAM that deputies responded to the scene within minutes and found four people suffering from gunshot wounds.
While one victim was pronounced dead on the scene, three others were transported to the hospital. Investigators also counted a fourth wounded victim but have not released any injury details.
The name of the deceased has not been released either. However, Breland confirmed to the local TV station that the individual was a 23-year-old Black female.
As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made as the investigation continues. Investigators are asking for any tips, photos or videos from the gathering, or any relevant information to be submitted as soon as possible. The Walthall County Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at (601) 876-3482.
