A Starkville man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his role in the death of a 9-year-old child back in January of 2022.

Christopher Perkins was found guilty by an Oktibbeha County jury of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the death of Lasang Kemp, Jr. The child was killed while sitting in a vehicle on Santa Anita Avenue.

Perkins is one of four men charged with the shooting death of Kemp. Barron Hubbard, Tabyron Fisher, and Dellveon Lindsey face murder and aggravated assault charges in the case.

District Attorney Scott Colom sought to have all four defendants tried at the same time. However, Perkins’ case was isolated from the other three.

Perkins was sentenced to life for the murder charge and 20 years for each aggravated assault charge. The sentences will run concurrently with one another.
