Jackson State awarded head men’s basketball coach Mo Williams a contract extension on Friday.

Williams, going into his third season with the Tigers, has yet to see a winning season since taking the job in his hometown of Jackson. However, the NBA all-star turned head coach has seen his team improve year over year while convincing major recruits to play for Jackson State.

“I am blessed, definitely blessed and humble,” Williams said on the extension. “This is home for me. I believe in this program. I believe in this university. And it’s heartwarming to feel the same from the university. I want to thank the president, Dr. (Marcus) Thompson, and our AD and everyone that was involved in making this decision.”

In two seasons at Jackson State, Williams has compiled a 29-26 record with his 2023-24 group finishing sixth in the SWAC with a 15-17 overall record but an 11-7 mark during conference play. No details on contract length or numbers were released by the university. The Tigers were picked to finish fourth in the 2024-25 SWAC preseason rankings.

Two of Williams’ colleagues also received contract extensions on Friday, head football coach T.C. Taylor and athletic director Ashley Robinson.
