Ward 2 voters in the city of Jackson will elect a new candidate to represent them on the city council.
After a crowded field of candidates initially vied for the job, Jacksonians dwindled down the pool to a pair of candidates — one of whom will be elected in a run-off held on Tuesday.
Montyne “Tina” Clay, a Jackson business owner, goes into the run-off with a slight edge over retired Army Colonel Marcus Cheatham. During the special election held just under two weeks ago, Clay garnered 1,139 votes, whereas Cheatham only received 550.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The winner of Tuesday’s election will take over the seat most recently held by Angelique Lee, who has pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges connected to an ongoing investigation into corruption in Mississippi’s capital city.
