Columbus High School student arrested for having gun on campus

A Mississippi high school student was taken into custody for having a gun on campus.

According to the Columbus Police Department, Javeon Colebrook was driving recklessly through the Columbus High School parking lot, almost hitting a police officer, during the school’s Homecoming bonfire around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Colebrook was stopped by law enforcement when they noticed a firearm in the vehicle. The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on a school campus and reckless driving.

Colebrook was booked into the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
