An 8-year-old girl has passed away after being struck by a school bus in Madison.
Madison Police Lt. Micah Taylor reported that the incident took place at the intersection of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive on Wednesday afternoon around 4:20 p.m. The unidentified victim was said to have been riding her bicycle when hit by the bus.
First responders arrived at the scene and immediately began providing medical assistance to the child. She was quickly transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center by ambulance but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night.
“We ask the public to please stay away from the area, as Madison Police officers are continuing their investigation and reconstructing the scene,” a release from the Madison Police Department reads. “All school children on the bus were reunited with their parents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and Madison County School District.”
