Singing River Health System has been recognized by Forbes as one of America’s best in-state employers for 2024.

This Mississippi Gulf Coast hospital system touted its commitment to cultivating an inclusive, supportive, and growth-oriented workplace for employees as the primary reason it was boasted as one of the top employers in the Magnolia State.

“We are incredibly proud to be recognized as one of Forbes Best-In-State Employers for 2024,” Singing River CEO Laurin St. Pe said. “This award reflects the invaluable contributions of our employees, whose hard work and dedication drive our success. Their commitment to excellence enhances our workplace and significantly impacts the quality of care we provide to our patients and the communities we serve.”

Singing River Health System has worked to boost employee satisfaction with initiatives focused on career development, work-life balance, and a positive work environment.

In 2023, the health system launched the Employee Engagement and Retention Council. This council is dedicated to improving employee recognition, retention, and overall engagement at Singing River. The council has identified and addressed key workforce needs through comprehensive employee surveys.

Singing River also lauded its leadership program, which equips managers with essential resources for professional growth. The program includes monthly lunch and learn sessions as well as workshops covering relevant topics designed to enhance leadership skills.

Managers also have complimentary access to over 3,000 on-demand learning modules through SkillPath/On-Demand Learning. Together, these efforts contribute to Singing River’s continuous learning and development culture.

Further evidence of the hospital system’s success is the launching of the Singing River Healthcare Academy, which was established as Mississippi’s first medical apprenticeship program. The academy provides free, hands-on training and classroom instruction for apprentices pursuing careers as licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, phlebotomy technicians, pharmaceutical technologists, and surgical technologists.

The initiative is part of Singing River’s efforts to develop a skilled healthcare workforce to meet Mississippi’s growing demand for healthcare professionals.

To create the best in-state employers list, Forbes partnered with market research firm Statista to survey more than 160,000 employees working for companies with at least 500 people in the U.S.
