An arrest has been made over a month after a mass shooting took place at a bar in downtown Jackson, one that left five people injured and one dead.
On Thursday, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced Cleon Walker, 23, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was charged with one count of murder and five counts of aggravated assault.
On Aug. 17, law enforcement was called to The Daiquiri Bar on West Capitol Street at around 1:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, five of whom were transported to a nearby hospital and the other pronounced dead on the scene. The Hinds County coroner later identified the victim as Niger Devon McGee, 25.
“We are deeply saddened by the recent incident that occurred at our establishment,” a portion of a social media post from the establishment read afterward. “We are working closely with law enforcement to assist with their investigation and ensure that justice is served. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted, especially those who were harmed or injured during the incident.”
The Daquiri Bar also closed for a temporary period of time after the shooting but is now back open.
