A Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College bus was involved in a fatal accident on its way to a football game at Southwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday.

All the students, who were members of the school’s marching band, were safe. But two people in a separate vehicle were killed in the crash that happened on Highway 98 in Pike County near the Walthall County line.

Mississippi Highway Patrol has identified the deceased as 51-year-old Gregory Young, of McComb, and 46-year-old Brandy Simmons, of Magnolia. An investigation is underway as to what caused the crash.

Officials at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College released the following statement:

“An MGCCC college bus was involved in an accident this evening on its way to a football game at Southwest MS Community College. All students are safe and without injury.”

Students on the bus did end up making it to the game and performing. It’s unclear if they had to use a different form or transportation or not.
