For the first time this season but the sixth time in his career, Millsaps punter Ethan Klapatch has been named the Southern Athletic Association’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
Klapatch, who helped the Majors to a season-opening upset over rival Belhaven last Thursday, punted six times in the game with an average of 45.7 yards per attempt. The senior had a long of 55 yards with one kick landing inside the 20-yard line.
Coming off an All-SAA campaign in 2023, Klapatch tallied 2,289 punting yards and was second-best in Division III with 45.78 yards per punt a season ago. He was subsequently named an All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.
Next up for Millsaps will be a home game against John Melvin University with kickoff on Saturday set for 7 p.m. A win would result in the Majors’ first 2-0 start since 2019.
