Tornado Damage Reports: More to Come as Crews Still Survey

PEARL – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency has received initial reports of storm damage from several counties from severe weather that is moving through the state. Storms will continue through the night for the eastern and southern parts of Mississippi so it is important for citizens to remain weather aware. No injuries have been reported to MEMA.The counties reporting damages are as follows:

 

  • Copiah: Roads closed due to flooding.
  • Franklin: Flash flooding, one water rescue, MS 556 between U.S. Hwy. 98 and U.S. Hwy 84 closed due to flooding.
  • Kemper: Homes and East Mississippi Community College damaged, roads closed from flooding/debris.
  • Lauderdale: Homes and West Lauderdale High School damaged, power outages, trees down in the Collinsville area. Schools closed Wednesday.
  • Neshoba: Flash flooding in and around Philadelphia.
  • Newton: Homes and agricultural buildings damaged.
  • Noxubee: Reed Elementary School damaged and power outages in the Shuqualak area.
  • Rankin: Flash flooding in several areas. U.S. Hwy 80 between and MS Highways 43 and 13 closed due to high water.
  • Simpson: Flash flooding, MS 149 between Sawmill Rd. and Charlie Newsome Rd. closed.
  • Scott: Several roads flooded, U.S. Hwy 80 at Rankin/Scott County line closed due to flooding.

Damage assessments are ongoing. Damage report updates will be released as they become available.
