Nine people, including a toddler, are reported to have been injured in a pair of drive-by shootings that took place in Mississippi’s capital city on Tuesday.
According to Detective Tommie Brown of the Jackson Police Department, authorities began investigating the first incident around 8:30 p.m. The shooting occurred on Palm Street near Ridgeland Drive. A 31-year-old Black male, a 21-year-old Black male, and an 18-year-old Black male suffered gunshot wounds after a suspect, identified as Brendon Booth, operating a stolen Kia Forte opened fire at the location.
Booth, who was shot at the scene, is charged with aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a stolen vehicle. The conditions of the other victims are unknown at this time.
Police were called to investigate another drive-by shooting around 10 p.m. This incident took place in the 300 block of Maple Street. A grey sedan, believed to be a Nissan Altima occupied by multiple unidentified Black males, stopped at the location and opened fire, striking six people. The victims include a 34-year-old Black male, a 32-year-old Black female, a 27-year-old Black male, a 52-year-old Black female, a 23-year-old Black female, and a 3-year-old Black female child.
All six victims were treated at the hospital and released with non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made in connection with the drive-by shooting at this time.
