Jackson, Miss. — State lawmakers meet at the State Capitol Thursday for a special session, and the plan is to discuss the reauthorization of Medicaid.
“I hope we do get it done in one day, but it has the potential with the controversy of bogging down. I for one am working for not letting it bog down and expedite the session to save everyone a little money,” said Republican Representative, Herb Frierson, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
Democrats originally did not vote on reauthorization because it did not include expansion under the Affordable Care Act. Republicans said the state could not afford it.
“There is nothing in federal law that says we have to do this now. There is now way they can mandate that we do it. We need to study this thing and learn as much about it as we can just in case we come to a situation where there is no other choice.”
The special session tomorrow will cost the state around $30,000.
