Five injured, one dead after shooting at Jackson daiquiri bar

Law enforcement is investigating after a shooting in downtown Jackson left five injured and one dead.

On Saturday around 1:30 a.m., Capitol Police responded to a call on West Capitol Street regarding a shooting at The Daiquiri Bar. Upon arrival, officers found six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, five of which were transported to a nearby hospital and the other pronounced dead on the scene. The Hinds County coroner has since identified the victim as 25-year-old Niger Devon McGee.

On Saturday night, it was announced that The Daiquiri Bar would be closed until further notice. The establishment released the following statement on social media:

“We are deeply saddened by the recent incident that occurred at our establishment. We are working closely with law enforcement to assist with their investigation and ensure that justice is served. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted, especially those who were harmed or injured during the incident. The Daiquiri Bar is closed until further notice.”

As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests connected to the shooting had been made. Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Capitol Police at (601)359-3125.

Capitol Police are not offering any additional comments or information since the investigation is ongoing.
