A pair of Mississippi views have been recognized among the most stunning in the U.S., per a new survey.
Ahead of World Photography Day on Aug. 19, the Natchez Trace Parkway and Windsor Ruins were voted as two of Mixbook’s “100 Most Breathtaking Views in America.”
The Natchez Trace – a scenic roadway that runs 444 miles from Natchez in southwest Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee – came in at No. 82 on the list. Americans who participated in the survey specifically noted the double arch bridge in Franklin, Tennessee, as one of the most picturesque locations on the Natchez Trace.
“The Double Arch Bridge on the Natchez Trace Parkway offers a sweeping view of the surrounding countryside,” Mixbook noted. “The viewpoint from the overlook at the end of the bridge provides a panoramic vista of the rolling hills and forests, particularly during the fall.”
Coming in 14 spots behind the Natchez Trace was Windsor Ruins – the remains of the largest Greek Revival mansion ever built in the state – at No. 96 on Mixbook’s list.
“The Windsor Ruins, located near Port Gibson, offer a hauntingly beautiful view of the remaining columns of what was once the largest antebellum Greek Revival mansion in Mississippi,” the survey continued. “The viewpoint from the base of the columns allows you to capture the grandeur and mystery of this historic site, especially striking in the early morning or late afternoon light.”
The top 10 sites on the list were: Denali National Park in Alaska, Na Pali Coast in Hawaii, Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, Big Sky in Montana, Lake Tahoe in Nevada, Bryce Canyon in Utah, Grand Canyon in Arizona, Cape Cod in Massachusetts, Niagara Falls in New York, and the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada.
