Gulfport man arrested after allegedly using machete to rob victim of jewelry

Police on the Mississippi Gulf Coast have arrested a man who allegedly robbed someone of jewelry using a machete.

According to the Gulfport Police Department, officers were notified of an armed robbery at a business in the 1700 block of Kelly Avenue on Aug. 9 around 12:53 p.m.

Upon arrival and investigating the situation, officers discovered that Joshua Paxton Ward, 22, had allegedly brandished a machete and demanded jewelry from the victim. Witnesses reported that Ward laughed following the robbery and shouted obscenities at patrons of the business before fleeing.

Ward was arrested shortly after and charged with armed robbery. He is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
