Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded Sunday to a domestic disturbance call, which resulted in a nearly four-hour police standoff and one death.

A Long Beach man is dead following an hours-long standoff with police.

On Sunday at approximately 12:31 p.m., LBPD officers responded to Kurykendall Place on a domestic disturbance call. Upon arrival, they were met with gunfire and responded by discharging their weapons.

The suspect retreated inside the residence and released other family members to police. No injuries were reported to any family members, residents, or law enforcement.

Shortly following, the Royal Drive subdivision was blocked off from Commission to Pineville Road with only law enforcement and first responders allowed entry to the command post.

Officers with multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the home on Kuyrkendall Place on Sunday afternoon. The standoff lasted for nearly four hours.

After multiple attempts were made to contact the suspect, officers made entry into the residence and found the suspect deceased. He was identified as 43-year-old Justin Brown.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has since taken over the case.

LBPD was assisted by the Biloxi Police Department, Gulfport Police Department, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Pass Christian Police Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol, MBI, Long Beach Fire Department, Harrison County Fire Service, and Acadian Ambulance Service.
