Less than a month after authorities seized 33 dogs and an iguana in an animal cruelty investigation in Tate County, a man in neighboring Lafayette County was apprehended after another large-scale cruelty case.
Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call Sunday at a residence on County Road 418 for possible animal cruelty. According to reports, officers found multiple malnourished dogs, along with several dead dogs that were still attached to their collars and chains. Investigators executed a search warrant at the property, reportedly rescuing 20 animals and discovering 10 dead dogs.
Terry Pegues, 47, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty. He is currently being held on a $75,000 bond.
Officials say the investigation is ongoing.
