A Vancleave man was sentenced on Friday to nine years in federal prison for the possession of more than 83,000 depictions of child pornography.
68-year-old Cameron Willis Cotrill was identified in an online child exploitation investigation for possessing and sharing child sexual abuse material as a user on the BitTorrent Network. Further investigation revealed that Cotrill had more than 2,308 image files and 1,082 video files, which included 83,458 visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit content.
He was indicted by a federal grand jury in June of 2023, pleading guilty on December 19, 2023, to possession of child pornography. In addition to the nine-year sentence, Cotrill was ordered to pay restitution for the victims in the amount of $237,194.12, as well as $10,000 in total assessment under the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act of 2018 and the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act of 2015.
Cotrill’s sentencing comes just over a month after another Vancleave man was arrested and charged with multiple counts of child pornography. The case was investigated by the FBI with assistance from the Cyber Crime Division at the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
