Southern Miss football’s director of player personnel has been plucked from the program by the Baltimore Ravens.
Joe Moreno, who was the lead staffer in charge of recruiting under head coach Will Hall, has been tapped by the NFL franchise to be a player personnel assistant. Moreno came to Hattiesburg when Hall was hired in 2021 and played a key role in a recent recruiting surge from the program.
Thank you @SouthernMissFB for an amazing 3 and a half years! I can’t speak highly enough of Coach Hall, Coach Stringer, and staff. It’s been an honor to serve and I can’t wait to watch the Golden Eagles this fall!

The Golden Eagles landed the Sun Belt’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2023, which also ranked near the top of Group of Five programs nationally. Under Moreno, Southern Miss’s recruiting class ranking improved each year since 2021.
The New Jersey native made his way to Hattiesburg by way of Auburn, and also held previous recruiting positions at Harvard and Stanford. Hall told media members in June that it wouldn’t be easy to keep Moreno around.
“I think Joe’s a star. I think it will be hard to keep much longer,” Hall said. “I don’t mind saying that because a lot of NFL teams come through and love him. He’s got that in him. He’s done a phenomenal job.”
Southern Miss has not released any information on who will replace Moreno, with the upcoming 2024 season just 43 days away.
