6 juveniles convicted for burning down abandoned school in Drew

Six minors have been convicted by a court for setting two different fires at a vacant school in Drew last October.

The first blaze was reported at the abandoned facility on Saturday, October 14, 2023, and was extinguished by the Drew Volunteer Fire Department. One day later, the same group of youth reportedly set fire to the school again, which was in the process of being added to the Historical Register in Sunflower County, once more causing the structure to collapse.

Though the names of the perpetrators are not being released by law enforcement, the juveniles face the following punishment:

  • Minor One (14-years-old)
    • One count of first-degree arson
    • Restitution of $4,300 ($358 paid monthly)
    • One year of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
    • Attend Court Functions
  • Minor Two (14-years-old)
    • One count of first-degree arson
    • Restitution of $4,300 ($358 paid monthly)
    • One year of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
    • Attend Court Functions
  • Minor Three (15-years-old)
    • One count of first-degree arson
    • Restitution of $4,300 ($358 paid monthly)
    • One year of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
    • Attend Court Functions
  • Minor Four (15-years-old)
    • One count of first-degree arson
    • Restitution of $4,300 ($358 paid monthly)
    • One year of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
    • Attend Court Functions
  • Minor Five (15-years-old)
    • One count of first-degree arson
    • Restitution of $4,300 ($358 paid monthly)
    • 18 months of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
    • Attend Court Functions
  • Minor Six (15-years-old)
    • One count of criminal trespass
    • Six months of probation
    • 40 hours of community service
