Jacob Parker, a rising senior at Purvis High School, earned a share of the 2024 MLB All-Star High School Home Run Derby title on Monday night.
After hitting 24 long balls in the first two rounds of the derby that took place Saturday, Parker became one of the eight highest-ranked high school prospects in the country to advance to the championship round. The Purvis Tornado, who was named a Junior All-American by MaxPreps and is the No.1 ranked prospect in Mississippi, squared off against Californian Josiah Hartshorn in between rounds of the MLB Home Run Derby.
Hartshorn went first, hitting five home runs in the 60-second championship round. Parker looked to be destined to fall short in the waning seconds of his round, but blasted a mammoth shot to right on the final swing to make it a 5-5 tie and become co-champion with Hartshorn.
