Ahead of his senior, Jacob Parker of Purvis High School is competing with some of America’s best prospects in this year’s MLB All-Star High School Home Run Derby championship.
Parker pounded out a field-best 24 home runs in the first two rounds of the contest, which took place on Saturday at Globe Life Stadium in Arlington, Texas, enough to vault him into Monday’s title round. He joins the ranks of now-big league All-Star Bobby Witt, Jr. to participate in the prep derby, along with Mississippi natives Samuel Richardson and recent MLB Draft pick Konnor Griffin in 2023.
Parker and his twin brother, JoJo, were both named Junior All-Americans by MaxPreps after stellar junior seasons, and both have committed to play baseball at Mississippi State. Jacob continues to surge up prospect ranking boards, now the No. 1 ranked player in Mississippi, while JoJo is the No. 4 ranked prospect in the state.
Parker will square off with Anaheim, Calif. native Josiah Hartshorn, who hit 23 long balls in his first two rounds, in the championship round set for 7 p.m. CT.
