The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) has announced a new director of the Eudora Welty House & Garden in Jackson.
Sara Nordin will take over operations at the famous Mississippi author’s home and now museum, according to a news release sent Wednesday. Nordin most recently worked as director of visitor experiences at the Two Mississippi Museums, where she supervised front desk operations, coordinated volunteers and group tours, and spearheaded strategic enhancement of visitor engagement.
Other stops along the way for Nordin have included working at the historic Roosevelt New Orleans hotel as part of the hospitality management team and at the Kentucky Knob, a Frank Lloyd Wright house museum, in the education and programming department. She studied at Auburn University, where she earned a degree in art history.
“The Eudora Welty House & Garden is an important part of our literary history that has spoken to many people. I look forward to building its success,” Nordin said.
In 2006, the late Welty’s home was on Pinehurst Street in the historic Belhaven neighborhood was turned into a museum and opened to the public. Since, it has welcomed thousands of literature lovers throughout the state and across the world.
“I am looking forward to the great work Sara will continue at the Eudora Welty House & Garden,” MDAH Museum Division Director Cindy Gardner said. “She brings a strong background in visitor engagement development, so I have no doubt that the site will continue to thrive under her capable leadership.”
The Eudora Welty House & Garden is open Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. To book a tour, click here.
