Following Hurricane Beryl’s landfall in Texas, Mississippi Power is helping those impacted from the now-tropical storm get the lights back on in their communities.
A storm team of more than 160 linemen, engineers, and support personnel left Monday morning to travel west to the Houston area.
“We’re focused on getting the lights on,” a Mississippi Power representative said in a video posted to Facebook. “We’re always happy to lend a hand to our neighbors just like they do for us when it’s our turn to need help.”
As of Tuesday morning, more than 2.3 million residents across Texas were still without power, including 1.7 million in the Houston area. So far, the U.S. death toll is up to eight with seven of those coming in Texas and the other in Louisiana.
While Mississippi did not receive direct impact from Beryl, some remnants did make it to the Magnolia State on Monday. Rain and storms are expected to taper off later Tuesday morning with mostly dry conditions setting in by Wednesday.
