A pair of domestic-related shootings in Mississippi left one man dead and three injured on Father’s Day.

In Vicksburg, police responded to the 2500 block of Drummond Street for a reported disturbance early Sunday morning. Officers discovered that an unidentified male had shot two unidentified females during a domestic dispute.

Both females were transported to a medical facility for treatment of their injuries. The condition of the victims is unknown at this time. After a brief pursuit with law enforcement, the male suspect was taken into custody.

Just over 70 miles south in Adams County, a man was shot and killed in a separate domestic incident. According to authorities, police dispatch received a call from a woman crying for help just after midnight. As deputies were heading out to the scene on Carmel Church Road, a man identified as Randrell Jones called police regarding the same incident.

Randrell Jones told law enforcement that his mother, Tawana Jones, and stepfather, Calvin Carter, were in an altercation with one another. The stepfather allegedly entered the home unwelcomed and assaulted Tawana.

According to Randrell, Carter who was wielding a firearm, had his mother leave the home and the two left the home in the stepfather’s vehicle. Randrell began following the vehicle down Highway 61 South and notified police that the two had gone down Shieldsboro Road.

A round of gunshots then went off. Carter and Tawana were transported to Merit Health Natchez for treatment while Randrell was temporarily detained.

Sheriff Travis Patten reported that Carter succumbed to his injuries. Tawana suffered multiple injuries from the altercation but was able to be released from the hospital on Sunday.

An investigation conducted by the sheriff’s office found that Carter had shown up at the house on Carmel Road where Tawana, his estranged spouse, was staying for the night. He allegedly parked outside of a locked gate and hopped the fence at the property before bringing Tawana to his vehicle ahead of the fatal shooting.

Law enforcement are continuing to investigate this incident. No arrests have been made at this time.
