Law enforcement in DeSoto County are searching for an escaped inmate.
According to Sheriff Thomas Tuggle, Joshua James Zimmerman, an inmate at the Desoto County Adult Detention Center, escaped from the courthouse on Friday. He is now considered a fugitive on the run.
Zimmerman was scheduled to appear in court for a hearing after being arrested in Southaven and charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder. He also faces charges out of Houston, Texas where he was allegedly involved in the shooting death of a woman.
”Our Fugitive Apprehension Team is actively searching for Mr. Zimmerman, and I am confident we will apprehend him,” Tuggle said. “We will be waiting for him at the Adult Detention Center.”
Anyone caught aiding the escaped inmate will be charged with a felony, the sheriff says. The county courthouse has been placed on a temporary lockdown as authorities search for Zimmerman.
Those who may have information regarding Zimmerman’s whereabouts, are urged to contact local law enforcement immediately.
