Bond has been denied for the man accusing of robbing and killing another at a tennis complex and park in Jackson.
This week, Hinds County Court Judge Johnnie McDaniels denied bond to Daveon Marques Lindsey, 19, saying that Lindsey being free before his case is presented to a grand jury “would constitute a special danger to another person and/or to the community.”
Lindsey was arrested on the afternoon of May 15 after leading police on a chase that ended in a crash on Ridgewood Road, just miles away from where the robbing, killing, and carjacking of Melvin McNair, Jr. took place earlier in the day. Lindsey was in McNair’s vehicle that was stolen from the scene at Parham Bridges Park, where police found McNair lying in a pool of blood.
After Lindsey’s arrest, Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade told the media that Lindsey confessed to killing McNair upon his arrest. Lindsey shot the victim multiple times with a pink assault rifle, drug McNair out of the vehicle, and confiscated his wallet before driving off in the truck. Police confiscated the murder weapon at the scene of the crash.
“This was very disturbing on so many levels because so many people in northeast Jackson use that park,” Wade said.
Lindsey could also face additional jail time on a previous burglary charge. He was sentenced in January to five years of supervised probation after breaking into a Mexican restaurant in Ridgeland.
