Itawamba Community College has named Carson Owens as the sixth head coach in program history, the program announced on Monday.
Owens spent the 2024 season as the Coordinator of Player Development for UAB, as well as bringing head coaching experience to the table. The Mississippi State and Wallace State graduate spent two total seasons on staff at Wallace State prior to his time at UAB, the most recent of which was leading the program to a 52-7 record and trip to the NJCAA Softball World Series as the head coach in 2023.
“I’m super grateful to be here,” Owens said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to create the culture that has already been established at ICC. It’s a culture of winning and a culture of expectations. Everything we do Is going to have a standard here.”
Itawamba Community College president Dr. Jay Allen echoed the excitement of all those involved in the hiring process. “Coach Owens has a tremendous background that is a fit for ICC,” Allen said. “His personality, his drive, and his desire to take our program to even newer heights are definitely what we are seeking. I’m very excited to see what he can put together with the team and grow them as individuals, as players and as students to continue to build on what we’ve been doing at ICC.”
Owens takes over for former head coach Kelly Beth Ernest and a program that finished 26-28 record in 2024 after advancing to the opening round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
