A street in Jackson has officially been named after Mississippi bluesman Bobby Rush.
Following the announcement last June that a portion of Ellis Avenue would be transformed into Bobby Rush Boulevard, street signs and maps were changed on Wednesday. Bobby Rush Boulevard now runs from Interstate 20 to West Capitol Street.
“Bobby Rush Boulevard has been unveiled in Jackson, Mississippi. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. This is one of the greatest honors of my life!” Rush wrote on social media.
For Rush to consider the street named in his honor one of his biggest achievements really means something as the 90-year-old has enjoyed a decorated career, including three Grammy awards.
Born in Louisiana, Rush spent most of his adult life in Mississippi. His biggest hits include “Chicken Heads,” “Dust My Broom,” and “Down in Mississippi.” Rush is a member of the Blues Hall of Fame, the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame, and the Rhythm & Blues Music Hall of Fame.
