Law enforcement cracked down on an illegal casino in Grenada on Wednesday.
Deputies with the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office report that they executed a warrant at a building on the corner of Lakeview Drive and Futheyville Road, finding around 10 video gambling machines along with money that was used on the machines.
Mohamed Lemin was subsequently arrested and charged with illegally operating gambling and lotteries. It’s unclear how much prison time he could face if convicted.
GCSO deputies added that the machines were destroyed on-site, in accordance with state law, and the money was seized for forfeiture.
At one point, Mississippi was known for illegal casinos but that all changed in 1992 when lawmakers began allowing casinos on waterside and tribal lands.
