Most of Mississippi will be under a severe weather watch Thursday evening and night, according to the National Weather Service in Jackson.
As of the latest update, the main threats are damaging winds and large hail. However, tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
To be weather aware, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is asking people to do the following:
- Have a safe place ready.
- Most interior room of your home on the lowest level. No windows or doors to the outside. If you live in a mobile home, local storm shelters are the safest place.
- Build an emergency kit.
- Kits should include water, food, a flashlight, medications, a phone charger, personal documents, extra shoes, extra batteries, a first aid kit, cash, pet supplies, a contact list, and car keys. Put all the supplies in a bag or backpack and store in your safe place.
- Have multiple ways to receive alerts.
- Install wireless emergency alerts on your phone and have a battery-powered radio or crank TV ready.
