The Mississippi Public Service Commission has declared April 18 as Lineman Appreciation Day.
The proclamation comes as the commission’s three members encourage their fellow Mississippians to recognize and celebrate the hard work, dedication, and essential role linemen play in ensuring reliable delivery to residents and businesses.
“Linemen are the unsung heroes who work tirelessly, often in challenging and hazardous conditions, to maintain and repair the electrical infrastructure,” PSC Chairman and Northern District Commissioner Chris Brown said. “Their expertise and commitment are vital in restoring power during outages caused by storms, accidents, or other unforeseen circumstances.”
As Brown alluded to, the proclamation of Linemen Appreciation Day is timely as Mississippi had a severe round of storms roll through just last week knocking out power for tens of thousands. Linemen worked quickly and efficiently to ensure the power was turned back on for residents across the state.
“Linemen are the backbone of our electrical system,” Central District Commissioner De’Keither Stamps added. “They work day and night, often in dangerous conditions, to keep the lights on for our communities. This proclamation is a small token of our appreciation for their hard work and dedication.”
The PSC asks residents to take some time on Thursday to thank one of the nearly 2,000 line workers currently employed in Mississippi.
