With the minor league baseball season just around the corner, two suitors have emerged to take over naming rights for the former MGM Park in Biloxi.
According to WLOX, the home of the Biloxi Shuckers has received bids from both Keesler Federal Credit Union and Shuckers Baseball, LLC. While Keesler Federal is offering $150,000 per year – $25,000 more than what the city of Biloxi was initially hoping for – over five years, Shuckers Baseball, LLC is offering $90,000 per year for over 10 years.
If Shuckers Baseball, LLC were to land the deal, the downtown ballpark would probably be named something like Shuckers Stadium. Whoever does land the deal, though, will receive signage on both entrances as well as on top of the scoreboard.
For both bids, a new name is suggested to go into effect prior to the 2024 season, which begins on April 5. An exhibition game is scheduled to take place at the ballpark on April 3.
The Shuckers are soon to be Mississippi’s only minor league team as the Mississippi Braves recently announced their move to Columbus, Ga., following the 2024 season.
