JACKSON, MISS.—The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Saris Cycling Group want to congratulate Henderson Elementary School 5thgrader Mandy Sun on winning first place in the statewide Saris Poster Contest, which challenged students to create posters based on the theme #longfortheride.
The purpose of the contest is to promote youth riding bicycles as a way to lead a healthy lifestyle. Past contest themes have focused on one of the simple benefits of riding a bike. In 2013 and 2014, the poster contest winner came from Mississippi, further showing the state’s growing bike culture. The 2014 National Poster Contest winner, Lily, hails from Starkville.
One winner was selected from each state to receive a bike, helmet and bell. The national winner will win a trip to the 2016 National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C., and their school will receive a bicycle rack that provides space to park twenty bikes and a bike/walk tracking system called The Hub. Check out the top three statewide contest winners and the social media winner on MDOT’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MississippiDOT/posts/1012956628727644.
Henderson’s poster was submitted to the national Saris competition. The national winner will be selected with the help of the public through online voting from November 17-19. Vote Today!
