Two individuals were left hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting at the Meridian Police Department.
Police report that gunfire rang out on Thursday just after 4 p.m. when an unidentified suspect being escorted to a court hearing secured a firearm and shot an unidentified male officer.
A second Meridian police officer discharged his firearm striking the subject. The officer and subject received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Baptist Anderson Medical Center. Both are said to be in stable condition.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the attorney general’s office.
