Former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and plans to stay at Washington, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Rogers, who played for Mississippi State from 2020-23, entered the transfer portal after an injury-plagued senior season under first-year head coach Zach Arnett. Even though Arnett was fired midseason by the Bulldogs, Rogers decided not to stick around and announced his intent to transfer the day after the Egg Bowl.
Weeks after committing to Washington, head coach Kalen DeBoer was lured away from the program to be Nick Saban’s successor at Alabama. That’s when Rogers decided to test the portal once more, but with the hiring of Jedd Fisch and the Huskies’ recent success, the signal caller out of Brandon decided Seattle was still the best fit.
“The team went 14-1 last year. If we can pick up where we left off, obviously it’s going to be a tough task. But I think it’s why you come to Washington,” Rogers told Thamel. “It’s obviously a new conference and things like that. But I have a lot of faith in Coach Fisch and feel like he’ll be ready to have us compete at a high level.”
Rogers will now resume classes at Washington and hopes to be the starter under center when the Huskies kick off the 2024 season against Weber State on Aug. 31. During his time at Mississippi State, he thrived under the late Mike Leach’s Air Raid system, becoming the SEC’s second leading passer all time with 12,315 yards. He added 94 touchdowns compared to 28 interceptions.
