Greyhound’s new location in Mississippi’s capital city is set to receive $2.1 million for renovations to be made to the Jackson Union Station.
U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) joined officials with the Jackson Redevelopment Authority (JRA) and Greyhound to give an update on the resumed operations at Union Station on Monday, releasing that millions in repairs will be made to the location in the coming months.
“With this $2.1 million investment that we’ve offered JRA as a down payment on bringing this transportation hub back, I’m excited for that,” Thompson said during a press conference. “I’m excited for this part of Jackson because it’s important for people to understand the historical significance of where we are.”
In early December, Greyhound released that services would resume in Jackson after terminating operations over a year ago due to complaints made to the city and the legislature about the conditions at Union Station.
Officials confirmed that Greyhound had temporarily moved its business to Love’s Travel Stop in Flowood in late August of 2022 after releasing that the station had leaks throughout the building, homeless individuals sleeping at the location overnight, and a lack of overall upkeep.
Since then, the transit company has returned to its prior location on West Capitol Street to offer two daily routes, which include a westbound route connecting Jackson to Shreveport, La. and Dallas, Tex. and an eastbound route that goes to Birmingham, Ala. and Atlanta, Ga.
“Greyhound is an essential service for many Jacksonians, including workers, students, veterans and active-duty military, and local businesses,” Thompson added “This funding will help build infrastructures that boost Jackson’s economy while creating a more equitable transportation system throughout the region.”
The transit company also released that Greyhound had signed an agreement to provide services to those in the Jackson Metro over the next five years

As we begin the new year, Greyhound looks forward to providing convenient, affordable bus travel to the great people of Jackson and surrounding areas.”
Over the past month, travelers from Jackson and surrounding communities have had daily access to eastbound and westbound routes, connecting them to Greyhound’s network of more than 1,700 destinations nationwide.
