A north Mississippi man has been taken into custody for allegedly denying care to his wife who was in critical condition and in dire need of medical assistance.
On Monday, officers with the Senatobia Police Department were dispatched to assist firefighters in responding to an unresponsive elderly female in a local home. Upon arrival, the unidentified female was found lying on the ground and would not respond to first responders.
Police say the female was breathing, but in obvious need of emergency care and subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Investigators took 80-year-old Robert Hibler, a resident of the home and spouse of the female, in for questioning after evidence was gathered at the scene.
After investigation, authorities determined that Hibler’s wife had been lying on the floor for a substantial period of time and that the husband’s refusal to seek medical attention for her resulted in a significant deterioration in her health.
Hibler is charged with domestic violence aggravated assault. He was transported to the Tate County Jail and was given a $100,000 bond.
The victim remains in critical condition at a local hospital, per police.
