A Mississippi Gulf Coast teenager has been taken into custody for shooting two people — one of whom was asleep inside an apartment unit.
On Sunday, the Gulfport Police Department arrested 18-year-old Jaleal Montrez Malone on accusations that the teen discharged a rifle at a male individual at Emerald Pines Apartments. The unidentified shooting victim sustained three gunshot wounds and is currently listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
One of the bullets haphazardly fired by Malone went into a nearby apartment unit and struck a female, later identified as 24-year-old Donna Perkins, who happened to be lying in bed. Perkins was rushed to a local hospital where she is reported to have succumbed to her injuries.
Malone is charged with nine counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center to be held in lieu of his $2,500,000 bond.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office assisted GPD in the arrest.
