Jackson, Miss- The 14th Annual Mississippi Economic Council Hob Nob at the Mississippi Coliseum brought together the major state lawmakers and their opposing candidates under one roof for a final chance to state their platform before you vote on Tuesday.
The idea behind Hob Nob was to unite the state’s leaders, whom are normally spread out, under one big tent. Now an event that hosts hundreds of people, Hob Nob is now held at the coliseum.
While many anticipated Initiative 42 to lead the discussions of the day, Lt. Governor Tate Reeves and democratic candidate for Lt. Governor Tim Johnson were the only two to fully elaborate on their stance.
“I support fully funding our schools,” says Johnson.
“It is important that everyone in this room understand and appreciate the consequences of initiative 42 passing,” says Lt. Governor Tate Reeves, citing the changes to the constitution that could move the budgeting power to a Hinds county judge if the initiative passes.
Advances in education, economic growth and development were the highlights of Governor Phil Bryant speech, as he cited numerous job openings across the state during his four year run.
“I remember the Yokohama Tire plant ground breaking,” Bryant says as he reflects on the recent ribbon cutting, “it was a cold day, the coldest I had seen in Mississippi. Of course, they said it’d be a cold day before a plant like that would open in the state.”
