Winning the World Series of course comes with a ring but even a key sometimes.
On Thursday, the city of Tupelo and Mayor Todd Jordan presented native and Texas Rangers pitcher Chris Stratton with a key to the city after helping the team to its first-ever World Series title last week.
Stratton, who pitched at Tupelo High School from 2007-09, went on to play for Mississippi State from 2010-11. He was then drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2012 before making his first big-league appearance in 2016. After bouncing around the National League between the Giants, Los Angeles Angels, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals, Stratton signed with the Rangers going into this past season.
On the year, Stratton mostly came out of the bullpen over 22 games and finished with a 3.41 earned run average. In the World Series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, Stratton played in two games and gave up two runs on 1.1 innings of work.
Stratton was joined by teammate Nathaniel Lowe as the only two Mississippians to win World Series rings this year.
