JACKSON, MISS– If you want to avoid getting sick with the flu, doctors say the flu shot is your best bet. You can now get the flu shot at your local health department, or make an appointment with your regular doctor.
The flu shot is safe for you and your family six months or older. People who are most likely to have complications with the flu are young children, adults over 65, pregnant women, and those with chronic illness.
“Most people recover without difficulty, but even young and otherwise healthy people can have complications and die from the flu,” says State Health Officer Dr. Mary Currier.
There are three types of flu vaccinations available this year. The flu shot costs $30, the mist form of the vaccine costs $35, and the high dose for those 65 and older are $55. Prices also depend on insurance eligibility.
