Bond has been denied for the Jones County Junior College (JCJC) student charged with murdering a Jackson State University student over the weekend.
19-year-old Joshua Brown, a Columbia native, appeared in court Friday morning and had his bond denied. He is charged with murder for shooting and killing 21-year-old Jaylen Burns late Sunday night. Brown also faces a charge for illegally possessing a firearm on a college campus.
Burns was killed at the University Pointe Apartments in what was the second on-campus shooting of a violent weekend at Jackson State. The Chicago native was allegedly attempting to break up a fight when he was killed.
Authorities took Brown into custody Thursday morning after executing a search warrant on the Ellisville campus of JCJC.
Brown, who was a football player at JCJC, is being held at the Raymond Detention Center.
