JACKSON, Miss.–If you’ve ever gotten an e-mail that claims to be from a Nigerian prince…well, you probably know that one is a scam. But, other scams have popped up in Mississippi that may be less obvious and even more dangerous for your bank account or the account of someone you love. AARP says they’re coming to help get you educated on it.
They’ll also be talking about retirement, social security and a host of other issues when they hold a seminar Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at the Richard Wright Library on McDowell Rd. in Jackson.

Ivey Craig, with AARP Mississippi, said anyone can come to find out about the issues that Mississippi seniors face.
“It is never too late or too early to start your retirement planning or to explore your next steps in life,” she said.
One major portion of the three-hour program will be helping people avoid fraud and scams.
“We are educating people on the top scams in Mississippi and how to spot scammers. We’re educating people on the importance on thinking before making decisions.”
Craig said AARP sees a lot of seniors being targeted.
“We know that identity theft is one of the top scams in Mississippi.”
