A Mississippi plant-based soap and bath products company has taken the market by storm and is continuing to expand, which has brought about questions surrounding whether or not the business will continue its main operations in the state.
Magnolia Soap and Bath Company, founded in 2016 by CEO Magen Bynum — a mother looking to create natural cleaning remedies for her daughter’s sensitive skin — has added 37 stores since its inception.
The company has exploded in popularity nationwide, but Bynum prides herself on developing it from the ground up in the small Mississippi town of New Albany.
“We love New Albany. New Albany is just home for us,” Bynum said on The Gallo Show. “The way that the community surrounds you, the way the people support the industries here, whether it be downtown locations, restaurants, or even big industries, they wrap their arms around you.”
As the company continues to expand its reach in the market, Bynum noted that there will be 50 total Magnolia Soap and Bath locations at the end of 2023. By 2025, the CEO expects to have an additional 200 franchises in operation.
What does this mean for the company in terms of location? While Bynum acknowledged it may be more convenient to relocate to a larger city or metropolitan area — especially for distribution purposes — she has no intention of leaving New Albany.
“It’s a no-brainer for me to keep things here,” Bynum continued. “It would make more sense for me to go to different towns, maybe Memphis, for our distribution side of things, but I don’t want to leave here until I have to. That’s why we’ve invested in the old Ford dealership down here. We’re going to put our roots here as long as we can.”
