CARTHAGE, Miss.–Aggravated assault charges are pending on a Carthage man that may have attacked his estranged girlfriend and her defender with a brick and machete.
Joshua Martin, 20, of Mt Charity Road, has been arrested on multiple counts including aggravated assault, domestic violence, and simple assault.
Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner stated that Carthage Emergency Medical Services responded to a call where Joy Childress 29, and James Edward Stewart, 49 were transported to Baptist Medical Center. Childress had been struck in the face with a brick and Stewart suffered from a deep cut to the head from a machete blade. Stewart was airlifted to the University Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Deputies arrested Martin 100 yards from the house at 2481 Mt Charity Road where the assaults took place and recovered a machete from the suspect.
